Proposing a comfortable, human-centric space for its inhabitants

Designer Pierre Paulin foresaw the need to connect a changing world, new technologies, and cozy, secure, refuge-like living spaces. "Playing with Shapes," a residential project conceived by the pioneering Paulin and Herman Miller in 1972, embodies this vision.

This ingenious proposal prioritizes the user's personal experience, moderately shielding them from excessive external information without complete isolation.

However, this project, which was never realized at the time, has now been brought to life by Louis Vuitton this year.

Not only is one of Paulin's remarkable projects revived, but Louis Vuitton's aesthetic, which shares the value of Pierre Paulin's assertion that "the presentation of balanced essentials holds great power," is fully embodied.

The "La Maquette (model)," part of this project and currently in the collection of the Centre Pompidou, is composed of six floors.

The first floor features the foundational basic modules, allowing residents to assemble or disassemble them freely to create their personal living spaces. The design incorporates flexibility to adapt to changing family structures and evolving needs over time. Pierre Paulin's creativity, always looking towards the future, is evident in elements like the connectable recliner "Déclive" and the carpet "Tapis-siège."

The other five floors offer a clearer understanding of the project's concept through various combinations, sparking the viewer's imagination. Each floor, representative of this innovative modular living concept, is characterized by its unity yet offers infinite possibilities for furniture arrangement, reflecting the core principles of Pierre Paulin's work.
