Launching "Fill-Your-Own Water Bottles" and the "Water" App

MUJI, which aims for a better relationship with nature and has been working towards the circularity of global resources and waste reduction, was an early adopter in abolishing plastic shopping bags.
This time, as part of its plastic waste reduction efforts, MUJI has installed water dispensers utilizing tap water in its stores and launched a free water refilling service. MUJI aims for this initiative to serve as an opportunity for people to think about the environment and health as more individuals bring their own bottles. Instead of buying new bottled beverages, anyone can easily fill their water bottles with drinking water by bringing their own.
Water dispensers have initially been installed in 113 stores, including "MUJI Ginza" and "MUJI Grand Front Osaka," as well as major stores and new stores serving as hubs in each region. The company plans to install them in approximately 400 stores across Japan by the end of fiscal year 2020.
Concurrently, MUJI is also selling bottles that can be repeatedly refilled. The bottles come in a convenient 330ml size, perfect for a single serving and easy to carry without taking up much space in a bag. Designed for repeated use, they feature a wide opening for easy drinking and cleaning.

In addition, MUJI offers a range of stainless steel thermal mugs and bottles in various sizes. Furthermore, to help people incorporate water refilling into their daily lives in an enjoyable way, they have launched the "Water" app, which visualizes information on stores with water dispensers, personal water intake, and the CO2 emissions saved.
Along with sales, MUJI also accepts returns of used "Fill-Your-Own Water Bottles" at its stores. The collected bottles are recycled into polyester raw materials, thereby reducing plastic waste and promoting the effective use of petroleum-derived resources.
