It is now available at retailers including Barneys New York, RESTIR, AGITO, and MARK STYLE.

A Masterpiece Born from Immense Effort and Time


SQUAIR, a brand that has redefined the concept of iPhone cases and led the market for premium iPhone accessories, launched its first product, the "Curvacious Bumper," in September 2013. Now, they introduce "The Slit," a metal dress case that achieves an absolute strength while weighing just 32 grams. The lineup features seven products priced between 20,000 and 150,000 yen (excluding tax).

The back of "The Slit" is inspired by architectural "slits" and is milled from a solid block of super-duralumin using a 5-axis cutting machine, demanding processing precision and cutting technology with tolerances of no more than 1/100th of a millimeter.

Each slit groove is cut at a different angle, requiring the blade's angle to be adjusted for every single pass – an incredibly labor-intensive and time-consuming process. After being milled using high-performance cutting machines and sophisticated programming, the case is meticulously finished by hand, one by one, by artisans in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, renowned for its mold making, before being engraved with a serial number.

A Secure Attachment Mechanism Developed Without Screws


"The Slit," a testament to the fusion of artisan craftsmanship, cutting-edge machinery, and programming – truly deserving of the title 'Modern Traditional Craft' – employs a unique structure called "batto," developed specifically for this case. It allows for attachment simply by aligning the two upper and lower parts.

The satisfying 'click' sensation and sound upon attachment and detachment evoke the feeling of drawing a Japanese sword from its saya, offering a unique tactile pleasure and an exceptional fit, as if it were an original part of the iPhone.
