A Lifestyle Shop Celebrating Its 5th Anniversary This March
'Bazar et Garde-Manger' is a shop with the unique name 'Garde-Manger', which in the past, before refrigerators, referred to a pantry for preserving food.
This lifestyle shop, directed by Frenchwoman Marthe Demulder, "seeks out items that one will want to treasure for a lifetime, things necessary for a joyful life, and curious objects." It offers interior goods, lighting, kitchen tools, fabrics, objets d'art, and used furniture from the South of France, primarily sourced from Europe.
Demulder, the conceptor, also serves as the buyer for the items sold in the store, while her husband, artist Franck Drat, handles the overall art direction, including mailers, logos, and the website. The shop celebrated its fifth anniversary in March.
To the South of France, Seeking a Garden, Light, and Stars
The title of the recently published 'CHLOROPHIELD' is a portmanteau of 'chlorophyll' and 'field'. Demulder wrote the text, and Drat provided the illustrations. The book tells the story of a couple who left Paris, where they had lived for a long time, to start a new life in the South of France, surrounded by greenery.
Demulder shared the inspiration behind the book: "After enjoying all that Paris had to offer, Franck and I decided to leave and relocate to the South of France, in search of a garden, light, and stars. This move was also about cherishing the quality of life and appreciating the changing seasons, the sea, mountains, and countryside from various perspectives – things we had almost forgotten."
A Store Filled with Diverse and Unique Items
Demulder, originally from Brittany, France, opened the legendary boutique 'Absinthe' in Paris in 1989. She ran it as owner and buyer for 13 years, making waves in the Parisian fashion scene. The store she curates is filled with original Japanese-made plates designed by Demulder herself and illustrated by Drat, as well as items by French artists found exclusively here. New works by Drat, such as three-dimensional wire sculptures, are also eye-catching.
Bazar et Garde-Manger offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of this couple, who live in the South of France and continually seek out new artists, vintage furniture, and objets d'art. Discover the joy of finding items essential for your own joyful life.
