The Legendary Band BOØWY Reimagined as BE@RBRICK

Text by SHINNO Kunihiko | Edit by KAWASE Takuro

Despite a brief career spanning just seven years, the legendary band BOØWY left an indelible mark on the Japanese rock scene.
Formed in 1981 in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, the band initially centered around Kyosuke Himuro (Vocals), Tomoyasu Hotei (Guitar), and Tsunematsu Matsui (Bass). Makoto Takahashi (Drums) joined after their first live performance, and they debuted on March 21, 1982, with their first album, "MORAL." Originally a six-member group, two members departed in the autumn of the same year, leaving the quartet to perform together until their disbandment.
Their music, a fusion of diverse elements built upon an eight-beat rhythm, coupled with their innovative visual style, garnered immense popularity. Their fifth album, "BEAT EMOTION" (released November 8, 1986), topped the Oricon charts. The single "MARIONETTE" (released July 22, 1987) also debuted at number one, cementing their status as a top-tier band in both name and reputation.
However, on December 24, 1987, during a concert at the Shibuya Public Hall, they abruptly announced their disbandment. Their final performance, "LAST GIGS," took place on April 4 and 5 of the following year at the Tokyo Dome. While each member embarked on solo careers, the four have never shared a stage together since.
Now, the legendary BOØWY makes their long-awaited debut as BE@RBRICK. Inspired by their iconic songs "NO NEW YORK" and "B・BLUE," these collectible figures will be released as 100% & 400% sets and as individual 1000% pieces.
"NO. NEW YORK" (Lyrics: Kazuaki Fukasawa, Music & Arrangement: Tomoyasu Hotei) was the B-side to the single "BAD FEELING," released on August 22, 1985. Originally titled "NO N.Y." and included on the album "MORAL," the title was changed during a re-recording. It became a staple of their live sets and the final song performed at "LAST GIGS," earning it immense affection from fans.
"B・BLUE" (Lyrics: Kyosuke Himuro / Music & Arrangement: Tomoyasu Hotei) was the title track of the single released on September 29, 1986, as a precursor to the album "BEAT EMOTION." It reached number 7 on the Oricon charts, marking their first entry into the Top 10 and widely recognized as the song that ignited their subsequent explosive popularity.
BOØWY, who sparked a subsequent band boom and transformed the Japanese music landscape, offers a must-have item for any devoted fan.
