Last year's highly popular Ryuichi Sakamoto archive collection is revived with a new black body. Furthermore, a limited reissue of the knitwear, which sold out immediately, has also been decided.

Ryuichi Sakamoto was born in Tokyo in 1952. After completing his master's degree at Tokyo University of the Arts, he debuted solo in 1978 with "Thousand Knives." In the same year, he joined YMO. After their disbandment in 1983, he continued to pursue innovative sounds, winning the British Academy Award for Best Original Score for "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" and the Academy Award for Best Original Score and a Grammy Award for "The Last Emperor," among many other accolades. While actively crossing over into the art world with stage productions and installations, he also founded the forest conservation organization "more trees" to address environmental issues. Immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake, he established the "Tohoku Youth Orchestra," composed of elementary to university students from Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures, to support the musical activities of children in the disaster-stricken areas.

The archive collection, released as "MLE RYUICHI SAKAMOTO," uses artwork and portraits from Sakamoto's early album jackets released between 1978 and 1987. The selected works – "Thousand Knives," "B-2 UNIT," "Left-Handed Dream," "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," "Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia," and "NEO GEO" – represent a crucial period of his pioneering and experimental creative activities before they gained global recognition.

The white T-shirts and tote bags, along with the KNIT GANG COUNCIL knitwear, were first released at the exhibition "Ryuichi Sakamoto | See the Sound, Hear the Time" held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from December 2024 to March 2025, where they were met with great acclaim. This time, the T-shirts and tote bags feature a black body. Additionally, the knitwear, which sold out immediately, will be reissued in a limited run. With the exhibition "Ryuichi Sakamoto | See the Sound, Hear the Time" in Tokyo drawing over 340,000 visitors and setting a record for the highest attendance in the museum's history, it is timely that Osaka will host its first large-scale exhibition, "sakamotocommon OSAKA 1970/2025/Osaka/Ryuichi Sakamoto," from Saturday, August 30, to Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the space "VS." within GRAND GREEN OSAKA.

The keyword for this exhibition is "Ryuichi Sakamoto in 1970." The exhibition traces how his experience at the 1970 Japan World Exposition (Osaka Expo), where the 18-year-old Sakamoto encountered avant-garde music and art, such as François Baschet's sound sculptures, became the wellspring of his creative endeavors. In 2025, as Osaka once again hosts an Expo, we are invited to experience the profound inspiration that the young Sakamoto received through the works and thoughts he left behind.

His third original album. Released on October 5, 1981. Six of the ten tracks, including "My Little World" and "Saru to Yuki to Gomi no Kodomo," feature his own vocals. Participants included Adrian Belew, Yukihiro Takahashi, Haruomi Hosono, and Kiyohiko Senba.
