Crypto Art Project "Samurai Steam Polka" Finally Launches!

EG Inc., a joint venture between MEDICOM TOY and Mindworks Entertainment, has officially launched. The first project from this new entity is the crypto art series "Samurai Steam Polka," created by artist STEAM POLKA. The series, which sold out during its first sale on December 20th last year, is set for a second sale in late January. This article introduces the captivating characters from the collection.

An Unveiling of "Samurai Steam Polka's" Captivating Characters

The first crypto art project from EG Inc., a company established by MEDICOM TOY and Mindworks Entertainment, "Samurai Steam Polka," has officially launched.

In anticipation, OPENERS hosted a roundtable discussion in September featuring Tatsuhiko Akashi, President of MEDICOM TOY; Kensuke Kondo, President of Mindworks Entertainment and EG Inc.; and KAWAI (aka STEAM POLKA), the creator behind STEAM POLKA. ( EG Inc. Launched by MEDICOM TOY and Mindworks Entertainment) In the discussion, they shared their vision for a new digital character business that would be accessible even to crypto art novices, a conversation that remains fresh in our minds.

Eight Characters Appear in Four Distinct Designs Each

Currently, X (formerly Twitter)hosts regular AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions via X Spaces. These sessions, often featuring guests from various fields, delve into the world and character backstories of Samurai Steam Polka, as well as the utility benefits for purchasers. Additionally, the community within Discord, "EG ART Gallery", has also opened, creating an environment welcoming to crypto art beginners.

STEAM POLKA, the creator, gained popularity for their original work "Steam Polka," which masterfully blends steampunk aesthetics with fairytale elements.
In "Samurai Steam Polka," eight base characters have been unveiled: "Gama Samurai Gamahachi," "Droid Geisha Oto," "Doctor Pest," "Oni Ninja Kurokage," "Sandogasa Hitotsume," "Diving Ninja Mogummaru," "Sorcerer Hakuko," and "Love-Lost Warrior Mukurobe."

[Gama Samurai Gamahachi]
Gama Samurai is a one-eyed samurai whose missing eye is replaced by a billiard's 8-ball. His kimono features a tadpole pattern. He keeps his right hand tucked in his bellyband, always on the lookout for a profitable deal.

[Droid Geisha Oto]
This female samurai, who works as a geisha by day, seeks to avenge her comrades. She carries a shamisen-like instrument, which conceals a hidden blade.

[Doctor Pest]
By day, he works as a pharmacist, but he is also a samurai. Though not depicted in the design, he wields a fencing sword laced with potent drugs.

[Oni Ninja Kurokage]
This ninja character possesses a "thousand-mile eye" in his left eye, allowing him to see great distances. He employs ninja techniques using potent concoctions stored in his chest. As a rogue ninja, he operates alone.

[Sandogasa Hitotsume]
Blind, his goggles emit a dim blue light. His distinctive feature is a long, lolling tongue, reminiscent of a kasa-obake (umbrella ghost). He wears a skull ornament on his conical hat, which helps him read the wind.

[Diving Ninja Mogummaru]
A ninja skilled in underwater operations, he has pressure gauges on his chest and arms. He favors the kanji character for "ninja" displayed on his eye's glass.

[Sorcerer Hakuko]
Characterized by three eyes on his mask, he conceals a staff that doubles as a sword. He perpetually carries a scroll in his mouth and wields numerous mystical arts.

[Love-Lost Warrior Mukurobe]
Once a renowned warrior, he is now a ronin, carrying fallen petals with him. In his enraged state, the heart on his eye patch transforms into a skull.

These eight characters are each presented in four distinct design variations: the standard version, a new design version, Luminant Color, and Luminant Color 2. The new design version features not only altered appearances but also revised character backstories.

Gama Samurai is depicted with a fierce gaze, holding a scroll in his mouth like Hakuko. The Droid Geisha is reimagined for underwater combat. Doctor Pest transforms into "Missionary Pestio," a mysterious samurai from a foreign land. Oni Ninja becomes "Cyclops," with both eyes glowing ominously. Sandogasa is reimagined as the wandering "Sasurai," a blind warrior whose eyes emit a green light. The Diving Ninja is now "Nekomaru," a cute ninja with cat ears. The Sorcerer is "Onmyo," featuring yin-yang symbols on his mask and scroll. Love-Lost Warrior becomes "Ochimu," whose tearful eyes convey an even deeper sense of melancholy.

True to their name, the Luminant Colors feature vibrant fluorescent hues. Luminant Color 2 utilizes different fluorescent colors and incorporates a fireball in the background.

In addition, the existence of rare characters has been announced. Here, we introduce three of them.

[Clown]
Co-founder of Samurai Steam Polka. Who is disguised as Amakusa Shiro wearing sunglasses?

[Steam Polka]
Creator of Samurai Steam Polka. A ninja user, Keropolka, who transforms those they meet into steam polka.

[Crypto-K]
Founder of Samurai Steam Polka. Beneath the mask lies an eye that can discern all things, principles, and truths.

The models for these characters are: Mr. Akashi for [Clown], Steam Polka for [Steam Polka], and Mr. Kondo for [Crypto-K]. Aside from one piece intended for personal ownership, two units of each rare character are slated for sale. Furthermore, two additional rare characters will be introduced: a Dutch scholar who brings third electronic network technology to the world of Steam Polka, and a ninja.

Purchasers of the crypto art will receive benefits including: a lottery entry for custom-painted sofubi figures designed by Steam Polka, priority purchase rights for Steam Polka merchandise, a lottery entry for "Samurai Steam Polka" artworks, priority purchase rights for the second series of crypto art, and invitations to exhibition parties hosted by EG Inc.

Among these benefits, the first item for the sofubi figure lottery is the "Zemmai Zukin" luminescent version (one-of-a-kind, 3 types), custom-painted by Steam Polka. This is a rare piece where Steam Polka has applied custom paintwork to a glow-in-the-dark base. Crypto art purchasers will gain the right to enter a lottery for this item, with only three individuals having the chance to acquire it. This represents a compelling initiative, offering a tangible reward linked to the crypto art.
