In the early 1960s, Warhol began presenting works inspired by "Campbell's Soup Cans" and banknotes as a fine artist, soon after delving into silkscreen printing.

Among these, "Two Dollar Bills," released in 1962, which features alternating front and back views of American two-dollar bills, is a piece deeply connected to motifs of currency and mass reproduction, and is considered a significant work within Warhol's early output.

The American two-dollar bill, featuring Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. president, on its obverse, was first issued in 1862. After its issuance was halted in 1966, it was revived with a new design in 1976. Although still issued today, its relatively low circulation has led to it being known as a "lucky bill."
