From Saturday, October 22 to Monday, October 31, 2022, the pop-up event "AKASHIC RECORDS 3 ~ from Illuminati ~ " was held at Space O on the B3 level of Omotesando Hills Main Building. Curated by Medicom Toy President Tatsuhiko Akashi himself, the event showcased and sold works by artists, brands, and content selected from around the world. Here, we bring you scenes from the venue, focusing on the works of artists participating for the first time.

The "AKASHIC RECORDS 3 ~ from Illuminati ~ " event, themed around "miracles and the cycle of life," was held on its largest scale to date. The venue, utilizing the vast space of "Space O," felt like a museum, unfolding a wondrous world that also evoked the marketplaces found in fantasy realms.

The venue featured the enigmatic subtitle "from Illuminati." Upon entering, visitors were greeted by three mirrors on the right that transformed their reflections into skulls. These were not mirrors but large monitors; a camera sensor detected human movement, projecting skulls through a digital art trick. Furthermore, a playful gimmick revealed a blue rose within the skull's heart at intervals, a detail attendees might have noticed.

HAKURO's new "MEAL" doll and Kaori Hinata's new "SMAK! GIZMO MORRIS" doll made their debut as reference exhibits.

Event merchandise was categorized into three types: "Venue Exclusive," "Web Lottery Sales," and "Reference Exhibits," each indicated by a differently colored tag. MAMES presented special color versions of "JAM BUTTON RUINS PLAYGROUND" and "LONELY GIRL," along with a "bean pot" and the "BE@RBRICK FLOR@ #2 White 400% / 1000%."

The SHINSUKE IKEUCHI "BE@RBRICK SPIKE 1000%" was displayed with prototype leg parts to accurately recreate its sharp spikes.

The "Yoi Ko Mocha X X (Abandoned Toy)" featured a fresh packaging design reminiscent of a collection of Showa-era toys, presenting a unique art piece. The artist's worldview was also evident in the "Limited Edition Prints (EDITION 10/10)."

Amazing JIRO, active in a wide range of fields beyond special effects makeup and sculpting, presented "Professor Balbenfili's Blue Rose." The blue rose was encased in clear resin, with 81 aluminum rods arranged regularly on the base.

Twenty unique art pieces by French textile sculptor Anne Valérie Dupond, titled "Anne Valérie Dupond ONE OF KIND BE@RBRICK 1000%," were also showcased, each inspired by animals from various eras and regions.

The "TARKS BLUE ROSE SET UP," created by TARKS, an apparel planning and design company led by Masaki Noguchi, featured a striking blue rose embellishment on the asymmetrical jacket. The volume, detail, and balance of the decoration were captivating.

A massive, translucent monolith stood at the center of the venue, displaying a succession of characters and the Eye of Providence. This symbolized the Akashic Records—the universal memory containing all events, thoughts, and emotions from the beginning of time.

Another piece that captivated visitors was NAGNAGNAG's "2100mm Wooden Godzilla (2001)." With a height of approximately 2100mm and weighing about 300kg, its overwhelming presence dominated the venue.

NAGNAGNAG's signature "NAG BALL (EDITION 5/10)" was displayed, alongside the "Kutani BE@RBRICK NAGNAGNAG x COOP 400% / 1000%," meticulously hand-painted by a skilled Kutani ware artisan, and the "CRYSTAL DECORATE BE@RBRICK NAGNAGNAG FOUR EYES 400%," adorned with individually hand-applied crystals.

From Kazuo Umezu's masterpiece, "The Drifting Classroom Sekiya's Tricycle" featured Sekiya Hisaku riding a tricycle. Planning cooperation by M1GO.

From Kazuo Umezu's masterpiece, "SHINGO by Masami Yamada Works 2" featured Shingo, approximately 280mm tall, with sculpting by Masami Yamada and master painting by NAGNAGNAG.

The "BE@RBRICK NEW AKATSUKA PAPA OF BONKERS 400% / 1000%" is a neon artwork by contemporary artist Rieko Akatsuka, collaborating with her father Fujio Akatsuka's work, reimagined as a BE@RBRICK.

The "BE@RBRICK EXCALIBUR 'SATOSHI' 100% & 400% / 1000%" by the contemporary art collective EXCALIBUR, themed "A New Yet Familiar Universe," overlays the concept of blockchain technology, exemplified by Satoshi Nakamoto's invention of Bitcoin, with universal principles and the Enso circle.

The "BE@RBRICK SHUN SUDO 100% & 400% / 1000%" by SHUN SUDO, known for his distinctive ink wash style combined with pop art colors, garnered attention.

The "BE@RBRICK Memento Mori 1000%" by sculptor IKEUCHI exhibits a serene beauty through its internal mechanisms and plated limbs.

The "BE@RBRICK Lauren Tsai 2nd 100% & 400% / 1000%," Lauren Tsai's second BE@RBRICK collaboration, features a distinctive asymmetrical design.

Aruta Soup's "Aruta Soup 'ZERO' 3D OBJECT" and "Aruta Soup 'KEEP CALM'" featured bandaged rabbits as their motif.

A new color of T9G's "JAM Rangius," standing approximately 600mm tall, was also unveiled for the first time as a reference exhibit.

The 3D Mona Lisa, officially approved by the Louvre Museum and a topic of discussion at art fairs this spring as a legitimate counterfeit, was newly presented as "ZEROTARO MONA LISA OVERDRIVE NEXT (EDITION 1)" and "ZEROTARO MONA LISA OVERDRIVE NEXT 1/2 (EDITION 10/100)."

Hideo Tsunenaga, who completed his graduate studies in metalworking at Tokyo University of the Arts and is known for his metal art sculptures, presented "Hideo Tsunenaga EL Mirage #1 blue rose," an object inspired by the blue rose.

Due to limited production, the jewelry brand IVXLCDM's "IVXLCDM BLUE ROSE NECKLACE" and "IVXLCDM BE@RBRICK CLACKED NECKLACE SILVER / BLACK" were switched to a lottery sale to ensure fairness.

From STEAM POLKA, which fuses steampunk and fairytale aesthetics, the "Queen of Hearts in Diving Suit" was displayed as a prototype in a giant version, approximately 500mm tall.

SHELTERBANK presented "SHELTERBANK Hedorah Complete Dissection," an approximately 500mm tall reconstruction of the Toho kaiju Hedorah using materials like faux fur.

The "CLICK CRACK Garamon SP" was created by scanning a plush toy made by Tadayuki Nakazawa, perfectly replicating even the texture of the material.

MILKBOYTOYS participated with "MILKBOYTOYS IT BEAR 'JUMBO'," a newly sculpted piece standing approximately 430mm tall.

Further into the venue, a special area was exhibited, designed to resemble the study where President Akashi spent his nights contemplating plans for "AKASHIC RECORDS." Amidst antique furniture, a rocking horse, and a wardrobe, props from the film "Naked Lunch"—the Mag-Wump and the Bugriter—were discovered (the Bugriter was released by Medicom Toy in 2002 as "1/1 BUG WRITER (MOVIE PROP TYPE)"). Was this the Interzone?

As you may have noticed, the "blue rose" was a motif used by multiple artists at this "AKASHIC RECORDS 3 ~ from Illuminati ~ " event. While blue roses did not naturally exist, Japanese researchers famously succeeded in creating the world's first blue rose through biotechnology about 20 years ago. Its flower language also evolved from "impossible" to "dreams come true / miracle." Perhaps it symbolizes a new hope for us living in uncertain times. Anticipation for the next "AKASHIC RECORDS" event is already building.
