Made with Apple Tree Waste and ABS Resin. Eco-Friendly Biomass Plastic
Biomass plastic is gaining attention as a carbon-neutral material.
Global warming, a significant environmental challenge, is caused by the increase of greenhouse gases enveloping the Earth's surface. Much of this is attributed to carbon dioxide emissions from vehicle exhaust, and from the burning of materials in factories and waste disposal sites.
Conventional plastics are derived from petroleum, resulting in substantial carbon dioxide emissions throughout their lifecycle, from extraction and transportation to manufacturing, processing, and incineration during disposal.
In contrast, biomass plastics are primarily derived from plants. Through photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide, allowing for a near-zero net carbon dioxide emission cycle from production to disposal and incineration. Furthermore, their use of plant-based, renewable resources instead of finite petroleum contributes to environmental conservation.
In April 2022, the "Act on Promotion of Resource Circulation for Plastics" was enacted. This law aims to promote the recycling of plastic resources by encouraging cooperation with initiatives such as 3R + Renewable.
The 3Rs stand for "Reduce," "Reuse," and "Recycle," with "Renewable" (referring to renewable resources) added. By replacing conventional petroleum-based plastics with biomass plastics derived from plants, we can expect improvements in environmental and resource issues.
MEDICOM TOY's ".jp BE@RBRICK" initiative utilizes environmentally friendly biomass plastic produced in Japan. Composed of apple tree waste and ABS resin, the first release, "Alexander Girard International Love Heart," marks the beginning of our approach to environmental issues through BE@RBRICK.
