Alfred Hitchcock: The Man Who Changed Cinema

KUBRICK is a block-type figure released by MEDICOM TOY starting in 2000. Its defining characteristic is its versatility, allowing for collaborations with characters from films and comics, real people, and fashion brands, with the figure's form adaptable to various representations. The subject of this KUBRICK release is Alfred Hitchcock, the film director renowned as the "Master of Suspense." To commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary of his directorial debut, this is a limited-edition figure created in collaboration with UNDERCOVER.
Alfred Hitchcock was born in London, England, in 1899. After working as a title designer for silent films, he made his directorial debut in 1925. He achieved success with films like "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1934) and "The Lady Vanishes" (1938). His first Hollywood production after moving to the United States, "Rebecca" (1940), was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Under the major film studios, he created numerous hits, including "Rear Window" (1954), "Vertigo" (1958), "North by Northwest" (1959), "Psycho" (1960), and "The Birds" (1963).
His innovative directorial techniques, designed to heighten audience tension—such as the seemingly continuous single-shot in "Rope" (1948) and the rapid cutbacks in "Psycho"—became known as the "Hitchcock Touch" and remain timeless. He directed 53 feature films before his death in 1980. He made cameo appearances in 36 of them and served as executive producer for the television series "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," where he also appeared as the storyteller.
More than 40 years after his passing, Hitchcock's work continues to captivate many, including Jun Takahashi, the designer behind the fashion brand UNDERCOVER, established in 1990. UNDERCOVER has presented numerous collections themed around Hitchcock's films. Notably, the 2022 Autumn/Winter menswear collection featured collaboration items with "Psycho," and T-shirts with Hitchcock's portrait, illustrated by NAIJEL GRAPH (who also created the poster visuals for the documentary "Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies"), are still fresh in memory.
The "KUBRICK ALFRED HITCHCOCK 100% & 400%," released as ALFRED HITCHCOCK × UNDERCOVER, recreates Hitchcock during the peak of his directorial career in a monochrome, black-and-white film aesthetic. The back features the UNDERCOVER logo and a print of his self-portrait, which was also used in the opening of the TV series "Alfred Hitchcock Presents."
