Keith Haring, who enjoys immense popularity in Japan, first gained attention in 1980 for his "Subway Drawings." This involved pasting black paper onto unused advertising panels in New York subway stations and drawing with chalk. His art, characterized by vibrant colors and simple, stylized depictions of people and animals, pulsed with life. In sync with the burgeoning hip-hop graffiti culture of the time, his work infiltrated and took over the streets.

While his messages reflected the turbulent America of the era, his bright, pop-art style, almost in defiance of its social backdrop, contained a positive energy.

Keith Haring was actively involved in social causes, including workshops with children and creating posters for "Act Against AIDS (AAA)."
