Founded in 1999 by designer Chitose Abe. With the brand concept of "Design Based on Everyday Life," sacai is a leading Japanese fashion brand that expresses a new classic style by blending different materials and focusing on details. They have also undertaken numerous collaborations, recently releasing items with NIKE, Beats by Dr. Dre, and Jackson Pollock Studio. Fans worldwide eagerly follow their developments. This time, we asked Chitose Abe, the designer of sacai, about their latest BE@RBRICK, which has garnered significant attention since its release.

sacai began its collaboration with MEDICOM TOY in 2017, and has since released three types of BE@RBRICK. The latest model was released in July of this year exclusively at MEDICOM TOY PLUS. The model in question wears a souvenir jacket embroidered with an eagle motif by LA-based tattoo artist Dr. Woo.

— Please tell us about the design concept for this BE@RBRICK.

AbeWe expressed the embroidery typically found on souvenir jackets using Dr. Woo's tattoos.

— What led to the collaboration with Dr. Woo?

AbeWe had the chance to meet through a mutual acquaintance, and I was drawn to his unique tattoo art, which made me want to create something interesting together.

— What did you find unique about working with him?

AbeI found the delicate touch in his tattoo motifs, such as spiders and eagles, to be unique.

— What is your favorite aspect of the completed collaboration BE@RBRICK?

AbeThat it faithfully reproduces the actual look.

— What were your impressions of BE@RBRICK before this collaboration?

AbeI find the concept of creating a digital teddy bear fascinating. I'm happy that sacai's looks, representing each season, can be collected as archives, and I personally collect them as well.

— Are there differences between designing clothes and creating a BE@RBRICK? Also, what is enjoyable about working on figures?

AbeFundamentally, it's the same, but I enjoy being able to recreate sacai with a completely different expression by dressing the BE@RBRICK figure.
