Japan's First Firefox OS Device "Fx0" Released
KDDI, the provider of au, has announced the "Fx0," Japan's first Firefox OS device designed by TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA. This smartphone is the world's first Firefox OS device to support "LTE," offering a smooth and fast web experience. The transparent smartphone, designed by renowned Japanese product designer Tokujin Yoshioka, will be available at KDDI directly managed stores nationwide on December 25 (Thursday).

A Transparent Design Expressing Firefox OS's Openness
Following the au design project "MEDIA SKIN" in 2007 and the iida "X-RAY" in 2010, the "Fx0" marks the third collaboration between au and Tokujin Yoshioka, and is Japan's first Firefox OS smartphone.
Yoshioka's meticulous product design, which embraces the beauty derived from functional mechanics, expresses the open nature of Firefox OS. The result is a transparent, futuristic design that emanates from within.
The various components visible through the transparent polycarbonate have been precisely calculated in terms of shape, color, and layout, stimulating creativity.

Firefox OS is developed using entirely open web standard technologies such as HTML5 and Javascript. While numerous Firefox OS smartphones, primarily entry-level models, have already been released in many countries worldwide, au's "Fx0" arrives as Japan's first high-end Firefox OS smartphone. Smooth Japanese input is enabled by "iWnn IME for Firefox OS," jointly developed with Omron Software.
It features the latest Firefox OS 2.0 as its operating system. With a vertical scrolling base and the introduction of Edge Gesture for moving between running applications via horizontal swipes, the UI has evolved into an intuitive and sophisticated experience.
Furthermore, it boasts a high-spec configuration with the world's first quad-core CPU for Firefox OS, and an improved HD resolution (1280x720 dots).
The Firefox logo is placed on the home button, asserting its unique identity on the front design. This model symbolizes a new stage, offering a fresh user experience characteristic of Firefox OS while also emphasizing design.
