Leica Camera Company traces its origins to 1914, when Oskar Barnack, a pioneer in camera technology working at Ernst Leitz Optische Werke in Wetzlar, Germany, developed the "Ur-Leica," the world's first 35mm format camera. This year marks the company's 100th anniversary.
The first special edition is the "Leica S Edition 100." This set includes the Leica S System, a medium-format digital SLR camera body, along with the central shutter-equipped "Leica Summarit-S f2.5/70mm ASPH. CS," offering versatile performance in various situations, and the "Leica Elmarit-S f2.8/30mm ASPH. CS."
The standard focal length lens, "Leica Summarit-S f2.5/70mm ASPH. CS," delivers exceptional rendering at all apertures and even for close-up shots, thanks to its remarkable brightness and optical performance. The "Leica Elmarit-S f2.8/30mm ASPH. CS," with its 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm, is particularly well-suited for architectural and landscape photography.
The custom RIMOWA suitcase with an aluminum exterior, specially finished to Leica specifications for this occasion, is a compact size suitable for carry-on luggage. It is a case that reliably protects the camera and lenses, even in challenging shooting environments.
Further special editions are planned to commemorate the 100th anniversary. The price and release date for the first "Leica S Edition 100" have not yet been determined.
