Introducing the α7 and α7R Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Cameras

The World's Smallest and Lightest Full-Frame Interchangeable Lens Camera
The newly announced α7 series features a 35mm full-frame image sensor, the same high-quality sensor found in large and heavy professional cameras, but in a compact, palm-sized design, making it the world's smallest and lightest.

Weighing approximately 416g (body only), the α7 is about half the weight of conventional full-frame interchangeable lens cameras. It is equipped with a new-generation image processing engine, BIONZ X, which boasts processing speeds approximately three times faster than previous Sony cameras, and features a 35mm full-frame Exmor® CMOS image sensor with approximately 24.3 effective megapixels, enabling high-speed and high-precision autofocus.

The α7R, a model without a low-pass filter, also released simultaneously
The α7R is positioned as a higher-end model than the α7, targeting professional and advanced amateur photographers. Its key feature is the newly developed 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS image sensor with approximately 36.4 effective megapixels, and an "optical low-pass filter-less" design. This allows light captured by the lens to directly reach the image sensor, enabling the recording of subjects with superior resolution. Visually, it is distinguished by a red "R" logo on the emblem. Despite sharing the same body size as the α7, it achieves the world's lightest weight for a full-frame interchangeable lens camera at approximately 407g (body only).

Five Lenses for the α7 Series Also Announced
Five lenses—prime, standard zoom, and telephoto zoom—were announced simultaneously. Starting with the prime lens "Sonnar T* FE 35mm F2.8 ZA" on Friday, November 15th, the "Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA," "Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS," "FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS," and "FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS" are scheduled for sequential release in the future.

With specifications that make it the world's smallest and lightest full-frame interchangeable lens camera, it offers an accessible entry point for those upgrading from entry-level models.

While prices are open, the estimated market price for the α7 body is around ¥150,000, for the α7 zoom lens kit (with FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS) around ¥180,000, and for the α7R body around ¥220,000. The release date is set for Friday, November 15th. We encourage you to experience the expressive power unique to a full-frame image sensor.
