A Premium Camera Rivaling Full-Frame Models
Fujifilm is finally releasing its mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera. It was just announced at the consumer electronics trade show in Las Vegas in January,CESbut its official release date in Japan, February 18th, has also been confirmed. With the mirrorless market growing ever more vibrant, all eyes are on whether this camera can make its mark.

A Newly Developed Image Sensor to Maximize Lens Performance
Fujifilm apparently doesn't prefer the term "mirrorless." While "mirrorless" typically refers to cameras that have had the mirror removed from an SLR to make them more compact, the X-Pro1's development didn't start from that premise. Instead, the company pursued a new camera with image quality comparable to an SLR, and the result was a product without a mirror.
Specifically, it features a newly developed 16.3-megapixel APS-C size "X-Trans CMOS sensor." This sensor successfully suppresses digital artifacts like moiré without compromising resolution, allowing it to fully bring out the inherent resolution and rendering power of the lens. Developers proudly claim that it achieves resolution and low noise comparable to full-frame SLRs.
The lenses that send light to this high-performance sensor are traditional Fujinon lenses. The camera is equipped with a dedicated lineup of lenses designed with particular attention to peripheral resolution and light volume, and with thorough suppression of chromatic aberration. The aperture settings are also more finely adjustable. With precise click-stops, photographers can intuitively focus on image creation. Initially, there will be three prime lenses: the "Fujinon Lens XF18mmF2 R" (27mm equivalent in 35mm format), the "Fujinon Lens XF35mmF1.4 R" (53mm equivalent), and the "Fujinon Lens XF60mmF2.4 R Macro" (91mm equivalent). All are high-quality lenses that excel in low light and produce beautiful bokeh.

Initially three lenses will be available, with six more, including zoom lenses, reportedly under development.
A Classic Appeal That Sets It Apart
The original "X Mount," with its wide opening that allows the lens to sit deeper, shortens the distance between the rear of the lens and the sensor. This design helps prevent peripheral light fall-off and achieves high resolution even at the edges of the frame. The viewfinder is a "Hybrid Multi Viewfinder," an evolution of the one found in the premium compact digital camera X100 released last year, adapted for a interchangeable lens system. The magnification and frame size automatically adjust to match the focal length of the attached lens.
Its classic appearance, reminiscent of film cameras, is also appealing. But beyond aesthetics, it incorporates classic elements in its functionality, such as "Film Simulation modes" that allow users to choose color reproduction and tonal gradations like selecting film, suitable for studio portraits, and "Multiple Exposure" for shooting two frames without advancing the film.
Measuring 139.5mm wide and weighing 450g, it's not exactly small in the current market of increasingly compact mirrorless cameras. It offers quality comparable to professional full-frame cameras, along with a classic presence. This camera, with a concept that diverges from the current trends, is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the digital camera landscape.
