The Leica M Monochrom elevates monochrome photography to the next level.

The development theme: pursuing the highest quality monochrome photography.Building upon the previous model, the Leica M Monochrom, which garnered significant attention from camera enthusiasts, the "Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246)" has been further refined in performance and features. It is equipped with a newly developed full-frame CMOS sensor exclusively for monochrome photography, boasting an effective 24-megapixel resolution.

This camera omits the low-pass filter (a component mounted in front of the image sensor to reduce false colors and moiré) and removes the color filter. This eliminates the need for color interpolation processing required for luminance value calculations, enabling the capture of monochrome images with far sharper detail than digital cameras equipped with color-sensing image sensors. Furthermore, it renders details sharply even at high sensitivities up to ISO 25000.

The LCD monitor's cover glass utilizes high-quality sapphire glass, known for its exceptional hardness and scratch resistance. Both sides of the sapphire glass are treated with an anti-reflective coating, enhancing the visibility of the LCD monitor in challenging lighting conditions. Additionally, the camera features a Live View function, allowing users to check composition, exposure, focus, and depth of field on the high-resolution 3.0-inch, 920,000-dot LCD monitor.

Two lenses for M-mount cameras also released

The "Leica Summicron-M f/2 35mm ASPH. Black Chrome" and "Leica Summilux-M f/1.4 50mm ASPH. Black Chrome" lenses, each released in a limited edition of 500 units worldwide with a black chrome finish, were simultaneously launched at Leica stores, Leica boutiques, and select authorized retailers in Japan.

The "Leica Summilux-M f/1.4 50mm ASPH." is a high-performance standard lens that achieves natural rendering. Its wide f/1.4 aperture is ideal not only for shooting in ambient light and creating images with shallow depth of field but also for artistic photography. It is also an excellent choice as a first lens for the M system.
