Supply for the Year Estimated at Around 50 Units Due to Semiconductor Shortages

A PHEV model has been newly added to the Passat, which received a minor change in April 2021.
The biggest feature of this model is the 30% increase in battery capacity, from 9.9kWh to 13.0kWh, compared to the previous model. This extends the EV cruising range to 57km (WLTP mode), enabling zero-CO2 emission EV driving for everyday use such as commuting, school runs, and shopping.
In addition to the EV-only mode using just the motor, the driving modes, similar to the previous model, allow selection between hybrid mode, which efficiently utilizes both the motor and engine, and GTE mode, which uses both powertrains for powerful driving.
The power unit is a combination of a 1.4-liter gasoline engine with a maximum output of 115kW (156ps) and an electric motor producing 85kW (116ps), available only with a 6-speed DSG transmission.
The design utilizes the same design code as the current Passat series. Furthermore, like the previous model, it is equipped with GTE-exclusive C-shaped LED daytime running lights and blue-painted brake calipers.
Safety equipment is also standard on all models. Notably, the "Travel Assist" system, which provides all-speed driving support within the same lane, is an evolution of the previous "Traffic Assist" system for traffic jams. It supports maintaining distance from the vehicle ahead and staying within the lane at a pre-set speed, contributing to improved safety during long drives and reduced fatigue.
The body colors include four options such as Pyrite Silver and Deep Black Pearl Effect. The "Passat GTE Variant" is priced at 6,345,000 yen, while the premium grade "Advance" is 6,838,000 yen.
However, due to factors such as semiconductor supply shortages, the estimated supply for the current year is around 50 units, with orders thereafter expected to be shipped from next year onwards.
