Concept: A premium mobile space where all occupants can smile – the "Driving Lounge."

At last year's Japan Mobility Show, Lexus declared its transformation into a brand capable of offering unique experiential value, under the brand message "DISCOVER – Be Unique." Alongside multiple concept models, they have now announced the "TZ," a three-row seat SUV exclusively for BEVs.

Lexus describes the "TZ" as a model that harmoniously blends a comfortable space (Lounge) with Lexus-like driving dynamics (Driving) at a high level, based on the concept of a premium mobile space where all occupants can smile – the "Driving Lounge."

The chassis utilizes a specially developed platform, and combined with a large-opening, thin, movable panoramic roof, it creates a relaxing and open cabin. To achieve a natural acoustic space, quietness has also been enhanced.

Additionally, a "Rear Comfort" mode has been introduced to prioritize rear-seat comfort.

In terms of driving performance, the vehicle pursues dynamic capabilities to balance ride comfort and driving enjoyment, leveraging the characteristics of a BEV. The front and rear motors generate a system maximum output of 300 kW (407.8 ps), with each motor producing 268.6 Nm of torque.

Despite its large body dimensions – 5,100 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,705 mm in height, with a total weight of 2,630 kg – it achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.4 seconds. With a total battery capacity of 95.82 kWh, it offers a WLTC range of 620 km, providing the peace of mind for long drives.

Sustainability has also been considered, with the use of recycled aluminum and other materials. The ornamental trim features "Forged bamboo" made from Shikoku bamboo, contributing not only to environmental conservation but also to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship.

The "TZ" is scheduled for release in Japan in the winter of 2026, and further details regarding specifications, grades, and pricing are eagerly awaited.

Learn More About the Lexus TZ

Q. Does the BEV feature anything to enhance the "joy of driving"?
It employs a function called "Interactive Manual Drive," which allows drivers to control power output with a sense of operating a manual transmission by selecting one of eight virtual gears using the paddle shifters. It incorporates the sound of the LFA's V10 engine, a Lexus icon, and reproduces shift shock and displays a shift guide meter in response to gear changes, communicating the car's status to the driver. By combining auditory, visual, and feedback elements, it's designed to allow for a deep interaction with the car, even in a BEV.

Q. What specific technologies are employed to enhance rear-seat comfort?
The "REAR COMFORT mode" combines three technologies: suppression of lateral G-force during lane changes and cornering with Dynamic Rear Steering, braking force control to reduce nose-dive during braking, and pitch control during acceleration. This combination achieves a smooth ride that minimizes jostling for passengers. Additionally, the passenger and second rows feature ottomans for the first time in a Lexus SUV, creating a relaxing environment for long journeys.

Q. What were the key design considerations for the styling?
Based on Lexus's design philosophy of "Provocative Simplicity," we pursued the embodiment of functional beauty within a simple yet sharp form. The front features a spindle body composed of a single, simple mass, and the adoption of geometric graphics reminiscent of architectural design creates a dignified and imposing presence. The high aerodynamic performance, with a Cd value of 0.27, is the result of balancing design and function through repeated aerodynamic analysis from the initial design stages.
