Pursuing ultimate driving pleasure through meticulous lightweight design

The "911 GT3 S/C" arrives as the first model in the 911 GT3 series to feature a fully automatic convertible roof. It's a car that allows you to enjoy the unique naturally aspirated sound of its high-revving flat-six engine, even without a fixed roof.

Porsche describes the "911 GT3 S/C" as a model that combines the lightweight design of the "911 S/T" with the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine from the "911 GT3."

The flat-six engine, designed to meet the latest emissions regulations, boasts a maximum output of 375 kW (510 PS) and peak torque of 450 Nm, with a redline of 9,000 rpm. It is exclusively paired with a short-ratio, lightweight 6-speed manual transmission, achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 313 km/h.

To enhance the exhilarating driving experience, significant weight reduction measures have been implemented. Like the "911 S/T," carbon fiber is used for the bonnet and fenders. The carbon fiber stabilizer and shear plate are also inherited from the fixed-head "911 S/T."

The suspension features the standard PCCB brake system, which is over 20 kg lighter than cast-iron brakes. The center-lock wheels, 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear, also adopted by the "911 S/T," are made of lightweight magnesium, reducing rotating mass by approximately 9 kg. Furthermore, a 40 Ah lithium-ion battery contributes to a weight saving of about 4 kg compared to conventional batteries, bringing the total weight down to 1,497 kg.

The fabric roof, featuring magnesium ribs, creates a coupe-like roofline even when closed and can be opened or closed in approximately 12 seconds at speeds below 50 km/h.

An integrated wind deflector is also included, allowing for open-air driving even at high speeds or in cooler temperatures. The wind deflector deploys in 2 seconds with the press of a button on the center console and can operate at speeds up to 120 km/h.

The exterior is characterized by a front windshield frame finished in black film. The adoption of matrix LED headlights eliminates the need for the auxiliary light units previously located in the front bumper, resulting in a cleaner aesthetic.

For the first time in a 911 convertible, a Gurney flap is integrated into the retractable rear spoiler. The front spoiler lip and rear diffuser are carried over from the current "911 GT3."

Additionally, the "Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur" street style package, offering a distinctive visual identity, is available as an option.

The eye-catching decorative graphics on the front fenders and the "PORSCHE" logo on the sides of the vehicle are painted in Pyro Red, while the wheels are finished in Slate Grey Neo, harmonizing with the exterior accent color. Inside, the Adaptive Sport Seats Plus, embroidered with the Porsche crest, also draw attention.

The "911 GT3 S/C" is priced at 38.43 million yen.

Q. What is the position of the GT3 model within the 911 series?
The 911 series expands from the Carrera base into variations like the more powerful Carrera S, Turbo, and Turbo S. The GT3, however, belongs to a lineage focused on driving performance, translating motorsport technology directly into a road-legal specification. Its emphasis on the high-revving sound of a naturally aspirated engine and lightweight construction are symbolic of this philosophy. It possesses a design concept centered on the driver's active engagement, distinct from the accessible high output provided by turbocharging. The 911 GT3 S/C follows this lineage while being the first to adopt an open-top body.

Q. Why is the transmission exclusively manual for an open-top model?
Convertibles generally tend to prioritize comfort and ease of driving, making automatic transmissions the norm. However, by limiting the 911 GT3 S/C to a short-ratio 6-speed manual transmission, it uncompromisingly inherits the GT3's inherent character as a driver's car. The essential aim of this model is to harmonize the sense of freedom offered by a convertible with the joy of driving a manual.

Q. How significant is it that the PCCB brake system is standard equipment?
PCCB stands for Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake, a system that is typically an expensive option. It not only achieves a weight saving of over 20 kg compared to cast-iron brakes but also offers excellent fade resistance. The decision to make it standard equipment clearly indicates that the 911 GT3 S/C is designed with sporty driving in mind.
