Details Inspired by Ferrari's Iconic Cars
The "Hypersail" project was conceived as an open innovation platform where different fields of expertise converge, involving the Ferrari Tech Team, the Ferrari Design Studio, and naval architect Guillaume Verdier, among others.
The model, which the team claims transforms aerodynamic and hydrodynamic constraints into aesthetic value, measures approximately 30.5 meters (100 feet) in length. It is designed to deliver maximum performance in the unpredictable marine environment, leveraging knowledge gained from automotive development.
As Ferrari has lived by the racing world, "Hypersail" has become a unique vessel in both scale and technology.
A prime example is the integrated solar panels on the hull's sides. These are strategically placed based on detailed analysis of solar conditions during navigation, offering grip and even allowing for walking on them.
Furthermore, dedicated fastening systems and treatments ensure maximum freedom of movement for the crew.
From a design perspective, it's clear this yacht is a Ferrari. Its streamlined silhouette evokes the proportions of the "Ferrari Monza SP1/SP2," while the exterior of the cabin is inspired by the Le Mans-winning "499P."
Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari's Chief Design Officer, commented, "Hypersail was an unexpected opportunity for the Ferrari Design Studio and a highly challenging objective due to its complexity. It allowed us to extend our creative research into a context quite different from our usual domain."
The livery unveiled features a new shade of grey as its base, with the iconic yellow of Nuovo Giallo Fry, considered Ferrari's "second soul," used as an accent color. The origin of this name reportedly comes from Fiamma Breschi, the widow of Luigi Musso, a driver known for his yellow helmet and a friend of Enzo Ferrari.
The livery will be on display at the Ferrari flagship store in Milan from April 22nd to 26th, coinciding with Design Week. Additionally, a lighthouse installation by the Ferrari Design Studio will be showcased on the main terrace of "HIGHLINE Milano," overlooking Piazza del Duomo, adding to the excitement of Milan Design Week.
Ferrari's challenge extends its racing heritage to the sea. Future developments are certainly worth watching.

Q. What powers the Hypersail?
It is designed to be powered by renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and kinetic energy. At its core is foiling, utilizing knowledge gained from automotive development for its advanced control systems. The choice of a monohull design is also a strategic decision to maximize hydrodynamic and aerodynamic efficiency.
Q. Why is the livery's grey color chosen?
The livery adopts the natural color of the carbon fiber, the primary hull material, as Grigio Hypersail. This is not merely an aesthetic choice but embodies the material's lightness and performance through its color. The iconic yellow of Nuovo Giallo Fly serves as an accent, balancing functional beauty with visual impact.
Q. Which Ferrari models' design elements are incorporated into the yacht's design?
In addition to the Monza SP1/SP2 and 499P, details inspired by the distinctive elongated "F" visual on the wings of the 2023/2024 F1 car, and the lines of the hypercars LaFerrari and F80 are included. It represents a multi-layered expression of the brand's DNA, transplanting Ferrari's design language into a different context on the sea.
