Equipped with a 1.4-liter inline-4 turbo MultiAir engine
The "Start & Stop" function is being increasingly adopted in European vehicles, contributing to improved fuel efficiency. The Punto Evo, the successor to the Grande Punto, is a model that newly incorporates this system into a Fiat vehicle.
To reiterate the Start & Stop system: when stopped, such as at a traffic light, the engine automatically shuts off. When the driver initiates an action to start moving, the engine restarts instantly without the need to operate the ignition switch.
The engine is a 16-valve, 1.4-liter inline-4 turbo MultiAir unit, which was also named "Engine of the Year." This "MultiAir" engine, developed by Fiat, was previously used in the Alfa Romeo "MiTo."
Structurally, it electronically controls hydraulic valves, allowing direct control of air intake through the intake valves without using a throttle. This synergy with the turbocharger achieves both the powerful performance of a larger displacement engine and the high environmental performance of a smaller one.
With a maximum output of 163 ps and peak torque of 23.5 kgm, the reinforced chassis with sports-tuned suspension achieves a remarkable 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds. The vehicle weighs a very light 1,260 kg, and combined with its high-performance, downsized, and smart engine, it promises more than sufficient driving pleasure. Furthermore, its body rigidity is said to be even higher than the Grande Punto.
The body colors are named Solid, Special Solid, and Metallic, all with a distinct, sharp feel. A new scorpion has been born, truly symbolizing the essence of a Fiat car that possesses potent venom despite its small size.
The selling price is 2.89 million yen. Sales began on October 5, 2010, through authorized Abarth dealers nationwide.
