A Modern Take on the "Bobber Style"

Founded in 1921, Moto Guzzi is Italy's oldest motorcycle manufacturer. The new "V9 Bobber" arrives in this milestone year, marking the brand's 95th anniversary. Announced at the 2015 Milan International Motorcycle Show in Italy, it is now set for release in Japan.

The V9 Bobber is an Italian cruiser that combines classical styling with modern technology. It's a contemporary interpretation of the so-called "bobber style" that was once popular, particularly in the United States. Chrome plating and gloss finishes have been completely eliminated in favor of matte black details. The side covers and fuel tank also feature a matte finish, accented with yellow or matte red graphic details. This understated yet aggressive exterior emphasizes functional beauty.

The engine is a newly developed 853cc, 4-stroke, 2-valve, longitudinally mounted, air-cooled, 90-degree V-twin. It produces a maximum output of 55 hp at 6,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 62 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The company explains that the combination of the V-twin engine, an icon of Moto Guzzi, and the traditional steel frame embodies "retro-modern" design.

Safety features are also meticulously addressed, with ABS and MGCT (Moto Guzzi Traction Control) as standard equipment. These functions can be turned off, allowing riders to adjust the level of intervention according to road conditions and their preferences.

An Application for Ride Management

Below the steering head, a USB port is located alongside an immobilizer, convenient for external charging when using a smartphone for navigation.

The optional "MG-MP (Moto Guzzi Media Platform)" enables web connectivity by linking the motorcycle to a smartphone. This application, downloadable from the Apple Store and Google Play, transforms your smartphone into a multi-functional onboard computer and an internet connection tool for the vehicle.

The highlight of MG-MP is its "Eco Ride" function, which supports environmentally friendly riding by limiting fuel consumption. It also records riding data, allowing for analysis of vehicle performance and mileage using the vehicle's driving parameters on a computer or smartphone.

At the press conference held on July 5th, Francesco Fabi, Representative Director of Piaggio Group Japan, commented, "Moto Guzzi will focus its efforts in the Japanese market on cafe racers, aiming to sell 300 units annually in 2016."

The V9 Bobber will go on sale and begin deliveries in late July, with a price of 1,248,000 yen.
