What Defines a "Good" Bath Salt?

JessicaI feel that the purer, the better, after trying so many. Salt not only helps with physical detoxification, like sweating, but it also has a spiritual cleansing aspect.

ChicoYes. Purity is a must, a crucial rule. In my regular therapy sessions, when I sense someone is holding onto heavy energy in their legs, I first prepare a basin with just salt and have them soak their feet in it. Salt truly has the power to draw out what's unnecessary.

In Japan, there's a traditional ascetic practice of standing under waterfalls, demonstrating that water itself has been recognized since ancient times for its purifying properties. By adding salt to the bath, which further enhances purification, we can achieve a synergistic effect that cleanses the mind, body, and spirit.

JessicaIt makes me feel like the bath is something truly wonderful (laughs).

ChicoBy the way, how do you usually spend your bath time, Jessica?

JessicaWhen I'm short on time, it's about 10 minutes, but I generally soak for 20 to 30 minutes. If I have more time, I can go over an hour, during which I might watch a movie on DVD or read a book. Before getting into the bath, I wash my face, then apply a mask based on my mood and condition at the time. Once the mask starts to loosen from sweating, I rinse it off. That's my usual routine. I sweat a lot, so I always bring water with me.

ChicoMy routine also varies depending on my condition. For instance, after a long flight or when my body is tired, I can't handle hot water, so I use water around 35 degrees Celsius to relax my body. At such times, I might add something bubbly or a fragrant product like SHIGETA's "Sweet Dream." It helps with jet lag too.

JessicaReally? It helps with jet lag?

ChicoYes, it really does. It helps you sleep very well. When using a fragrance-free soap base, I recommend adding just the "Sweet Dream" scent. Conversely, on mornings when I want to feel refreshed, I'll take a hot bath at around 42 degrees Celsius, using a stimulating rosemary scent.

SHIGETA Original Aromas

JessicaWhen I have severe muscle pain after exercise, I use SHIGETA's "Free Me." For stiff shoulders, I use "River of Life," and when I feel bloated, I apply "Innocent Purity" directly to my skin before getting into the bath. It warms the body and improves circulation. I also heard overseas that if you have very dry skin, applying oil before bathing can be beneficial. It leaves the skin incredibly moisturized.

The Beauty Methods They Practice Daily

ChicoBesides bathing, what else do you do?

JessicaI do many things, but I'm a devoted user of SHIGETA products. Lately, I've been carrying "Golden Drops" with me! I used to mix it with "Princess Rose" for when my face looked particularly tired or for special care. Recently, I heard Chico uses it as a perfume, so I've started keeping it in my makeup pouch to enjoy the scent on my hair and neck whenever I like.

ChicoApplying it to your hair is a great idea, too.

JessicaYes, it's very refreshing. It makes me want to take deep breaths. We often breathe shallowly, so I think it's important to have scents that encourage deep breathing close by. What about you, Chico? What do you do in your daily routine?

ChicoI make it a point to massage at least one part of my body every day, even if it's just for a short time. It could be my stomach, legs, face, or scalp – anywhere is fine. Whether it's a long or short massage, I always do it before bed. For me, sleeping well is incredibly important. I absolutely hate the feeling of carrying fatigue into the next morning and having my performance suffer. Massage is one of the preparations for good sleep, and it helps me sleep very well. I highly recommend it. Self-massage is truly effective.

JessicaI only massage my face, stomach, and upper arms myself, but there's a significant difference between doing it and not doing it.

ChicoWhile receiving a massage is pleasant, consistently practicing self-massage yields the best results in the long run. Even just two minutes a day can lead to a more defined waistline. Our bodies are truly like clay; they change the more you work with them.

JessicaI completely agree. You can feel the difference when you touch your body. Hearing you say that gives me even more confidence (laughs).

ChicoDuring treatments, I also teach clients how to perform self-massage for their legs and hip lines. When they actually try it, it results in a lifted hip line, comparable to the effects of consistent exercise. It's easy to do yourself, and the results are tangible. It connects back to our bath time discussion: it's about taking care of yourself, about creating time to connect with yourself. That, I believe, is the core of self-care.

JessicaI absolutely agree! I often think that women tend to focus too much on others, especially Japanese women. We might put on makeup because we want others to see us as beautiful... or when in a relationship, we might become solely focused on being liked by our partner, constantly worrying about what they think. While that's not inherently bad, it's meaningless if we don't love ourselves before worrying about how others perceive us. In that sense, self-care and turning our attention inward are crucial. Of course, when working, it's important to consider clients and the people we interact with. But at the very least, when we return home, we should take care of ourselves. I believe this is a vital time for women.

ChicoExactly. The 'why' behind your self-care is very important. It's not just about how you want others to see you, but about the kind of person you want to become. If you have a clear sense of purpose, you will undoubtedly move in the direction you desire.

JessicaIt's the same with dieting. People who simply say they want to lose weight will never achieve it. If you have a clear image and vision of where and how you want to lose weight, or what kind of physique you aim for, even if it's overall weight loss, you'll reach your goal much faster. Those with a clear vision are more likely to succeed.

ChicoIt can be something very simple. Like wanting to have a body that looks good in a new swimsuit. When you can clearly visualize the points and specific areas, it becomes easier to focus on what care you need to provide. To clarify that vision, it's essential to connect with yourself. Only by confronting yourself can you understand what you truly desire. By meditating with relaxing scents in the bathtub or through massage, you begin to align your current self with your desired self. This alignment helps you understand what feels good and right for you.

JessicaSo, the first step is this "Jessy Box" (laughs).

ChicoExactly (laughs). It would be wonderful if everyone could recognize their own beauty and become radiant from within!
