This time, we asked Dr. Tomoe Kajiwara, a dermatologist who faces customers' real skin concerns daily, and Mr. Yoshiaki Furuyama, one of Japan's few male "Medical Skincare Specialists," about their commitment.
—What kind of patients typically visit your dermatology and aesthetic dermatology practice?
Dr. KajiwaraAbout 40% of patients come in with some kind of skin trouble. The remaining patients seek proactive skincare for beautiful skin rather than to solve a specific problem. We see a lot of women over 40.
—What are the most common skin concerns you hear about in recent consultations?
Overwhelmingly, it's "dark spots" and "lack of firmness." Many also want to improve pore appearance and sagging, with age-related concerns being particularly prominent.
—How do you provide skincare guidance at the clinic?
Dr. KajiwaraFor signs of skin aging like wrinkles and loss of firmness, cosmetics alone can be difficult to solve the problem. However, as one of the home-care measures, we sometimes recommend JCprogram products tailored to individual concerns and skincare habits. While hydration is fundamental to skincare, equally important is "thorough UV protection." UV rays cause dark spots and sagging, so I want patients to be diligent about protecting their skin, for example, by applying sunscreen even on cloudy days.

—Could you please reiterate the concept behind JCprogram?
Mr. FuruyamaThe dermatology clinic, where we treat patients suffering from various issues like acne, rough skin, atopy, and dryness, is where the brand was born. The prototype of JCprogram was a nameless cosmetic given to patients along with their prescriptions. Eventually, as treatments showed results, patients who no longer needed to visit the clinic began coming back just to purchase the products. This led to discussions about commercialization, and we have spent considerable time developing each product. Instead of spending money on advertising, we are committed to the quality of the contents, offering simple and clear skincare that is highly functional yet gentle on the skin.

Mr. FuruyamaCurrently, in addition to Jiyugaoka Clinic, they are available at over 720 partner hair salons nationwide. We prioritize in-person sales over mail order because we value customer skin analysis. Each salon is equipped with a skin analyzer supervised by doctors in various fields, measuring six parameters including moisture, oil, dark spots, and wrinkles to provide objective analysis. Furthermore, as this skin data accumulates, customers can track their skin's changes through regular analysis, which has been well-received for boosting their motivation for skincare.
As a cosmetic brand born in the clinic, our future direction is "total beauty." Some may find the collaboration with hair salons surprising, but on the common theme of "beauty," we accurately maintain "facial contours" and "skin condition," which, like hairstyle, influence "visual impression." Our role is to assist with this, and at the same time, we feel it aligns with the needs of the times.
