Ettore Sottsass

Ettore Sottsass freely explored every field of creation, at times a designer, at others an architect, ceramicist, illustrator, or photographer.

In 1997, Issey Miyake commissioned Sottsass to design a bottle for his perfume brand. However, the project could not be realized due to technical reasons.

Upon Sottsass's passing in 2007, Issey Miyake resolved to pay homage to him by bringing the bottle design he had created at the time to fruition.

Original Design Sketch

The original design sketch by Ettore Sottsass from 1997 depicts a transparent, slender egg-shaped bottle with a slightly tapered top. Inside the bottle, vibrant red, orange, and pink fluorescent threads intertwine, illuminating and enhancing the glass's transparency.

In line with Ettore Sottsass's vision, the "L’EAU D’ISSEY EDITION ETTORE SOTTSASS" bottle is primarily crafted from glass. Manufactured using the tradition of the highest quality hand-blown glass, each bottle possesses a unique presence, requiring over 30 minutes of blowing and molding work.

Plastic was chosen for the material of the threads, successfully reproducing the fluorescent colors characteristic of Sottsass's work. Furthermore, inspired by Ettore Sottsass's creations, a cylindrical "totem" coffret fits perfectly with the bottle as a precious small case.
