Jo Malone continues its tradition of releasing one new fragrance each year. Once again, a new scent season has arrived. Following last year's Vanilla & Anise, the 2010 fragrance, "English Pear & Freesia," draws inspiration from "To Autumn," a lyrical poem by John Keats, the great poet of the late British Romantic period. The star is the perfectly ripe pear. Expressing the transition from late summer to autumn in Britain, the scent is modern, elegant, and classic – a truly Jo Malone creation.

"It's unusual for a pear to be the protagonist of a fragrance," says perfumer Christine Nagel, who created this scent. So why choose this ingredient? It was a challenge for her, renowned as a master of Jo Malone's signature 'simple yet elegant composition.'

"My challenge was to recreate the scent of a pear at the moment it is perfectly ripe. To achieve this, we first focused on the pear's duality: its crisp outer skin and its juicy, ripe flesh. This fragrance enters with the sensation felt through the skin when you bite into the fresh fruit, immediately followed by the succulent, soft flesh. Creating a full-bodied pear note is an innovation in itself."

The resulting complex yet quintessentially autumnal pear note begins with a fruity, fresh aroma, then deepens with the richness of quince at its heart, evolving into a mellow impression. The freshness of white freesia and wild rose adds a soft depth. Finally, a base of sweet, spicy patchouli, white amber, and musk provides a comforting warmth.

Truly, it is brimming with the essence of autumn. This fragrance, evoking the fleeting scent of a perfectly ripe pear – a symbol of the British autumn – is poised to become a new Jo Malone classic.
