A program exploring the genius of pop art, Keiichi Tanaami, to be broadcast on DOMMUNE
A program offering a glimpse into the mind of Keiichi Tanaami, a master of Japanese pop art, titled "Daydream of the Transgressor / Keiichi Tanaami's Present," will be broadcast on the live-streaming site DOMMUNE on Thursday, January 26th.
A Wealth of Rare Imagery
Keiichi Tanaami was born in Tokyo in 1936 and is a graphic designer.
After graduating from Musashino Art University's Department of Design, he served as a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design from 1991, and has since continued his prolific creative activities, crossing boundaries of media and genres.
While recognized as a pioneer of psychedelic and pop art in Japan, having created works for album covers of legendary rock bands like The Monkees and Jefferson Airplane, he is also being re-evaluated as a visionary who has consistently challenged the key issues of contemporary art today, such as the relationship between art and design, art and commerce, and the connection between the everyday and beauty.
In recent years, he has collaborated with fashion designer Lucien Pellat-Finet in 2011, held international exhibitions, and published books. Even now, past the age of 80, his passion for creative work remains undimmed.
The program airing on the 26th will feature a wealth of rare images, including collage works discovered in a warehouse after half a century, a stunning collection incorporating his uncle's possessions, and dream diaries he meticulously recorded for 40 years until he suffered from insomnia. It's an unmissable event for fans.
