ART | 'Eve Yoshiki Hishinuma + Yoshitaka Amano' Exhibition Held at Kiyomizu-dera Temple's Kyōdō
An exhibition that took over the Paris Opera House for a single day now appears in the space of Kiyomizu-dera Temple's Kyodo in Kyoto.
"Eve Yoshiyuki Hishinuma + Yoshitaka Amano" Exhibition Held
The image of Eve, descended upon Kiyomizu-dera, evokes a sense of a bodhisattva.
The "Eve Yoshiyuki Hishinuma + Yoshitaka Amano" exhibition was born from the encounter between two globally active creators: fashion designer Yoshiyuki Hishinuma and artist/character designer Yoshitaka Amano.
Inspired by Amano's paintings, Hishinuma proposed, "Shall we create a 3D girl together?" After a year of trial and error, in October 2009, the unveiling of that girl, named 'Eve,' took place at the Paris Opera House.
Concurrently, Hishinuma's "Vertical Collection" of costumes, born from new ideas, was presented through Eve's installation.
The exhibition, held for one day during Paris Fashion Week by private hire of the Opera House, saw the mannequin (Eve), with its Eastern facial features and Western body, blend seamlessly into the historic grand staircase and halls of the Opera House, as if it had stood there for ages.
For Hishinuma, who had previously presented his latest collections at fashion shows, exploring ways to display clothing beyond the format of a show was a new challenge. For Amano, immersed in the world of painting, the idea of bringing two-dimensional art into three dimensions was a fresh and exhilarating experience, sparking curiosity about what forms would emerge.

Typically, clothing is positioned horizontally relative to the human body, covering it. However, these costumes are constructed by arranging hundreds to thousands of fabric pieces, each differing in shape by millimeters, vertically to the body. Each piece is secured not by sewing, but by passing thread through a few points.
Hishinuma, profoundly impacted by the fact that "all matter in the universe is an aggregate of vibrating particles," expresses through clothing that which is solid, yet not truly solid.
The fusion of contemporary fashion and art at Kiyomizu-dera, a widely open space frequented by people of all ages and backgrounds, differs from the limited confines of the Opera House. The creations of these two artists are set to travel to cities around the world.
