Ceramics and Crafts Selected by the Shop Owner
The owner of Kogei Keaton, Fumiko Ishihara, was deeply drawn to French "folk crafts"—such as the food culture, tableware, and textiles she encountered at a friend's home in France, where she studied abroad. After returning to Japan, she worked for a luxury brand's agency and PR firm, but left after giving birth. In 2011, she rediscovered the beauty of folk crafts at the "Japanese Folk Crafts Exhibition" at the Musée du quai Branly in Paris, which she had seen years before, and together with her partner, a systems engineer, launched the online shop "Hibino Kurashi" for folk crafts.
The newly opened physical store, "Kogei Keaton," features ceramics and crafts personally sourced by the owner from kilns scattered across Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, Hyogo, Kumamoto, Oita, and Okinawa. Each piece is a practical vessel, deeply imbued with the local customs and climate of its region.
"At Kogei Keaton, we hope customers will find beautiful and enjoyable practical items that suit their individual spaces and lifestyles," commented owner Fumiko Ishihara.

The shop's name is inspired by the comedian Kitton Masuda, who was named after the silent film actor Buster Keaton. The interior, a unique blend of Showa-era charm and modern sensibilities, was directed by Nobuyuki Suzuki, known as "Gulliver," the representative of SUZUKI CRAFT, who has designed numerous other establishments. Customers can relax on the raised seating area while leisurely choosing their preferred pieces.
